Sounds like a line from the Onion, but it's true: The Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War (no catchy acronym to be found there) is organizing a rally on the steps of the Capitol for 11 a.m. Thursday. The issue is the lack of permits issued to various anti-war and other activist groups by the city of St. Paul for Sept. 1, when all those elephants come to Xcel Energy Center.
"Organizers feel that city officials have been dragging their feet on granting permits for the coalition's major anti-war march ... set to coincide with the Republican National Convention (RNC) being held in St. Paul at that time," reads a press release trumpeting the rally.
Also, according to the missive, the groups will rally at the Capitol on the first of each month until permits are issued, and the coalition's case in what has become a protracted battle will be heard May 16 in federal court. — G.R. Anderson Jr.
