Last Friday's story in the Pioneer Press about how some wish we had the Democratic National Convention in St. Paul, rather than the Republican gathering, didn't go over well with Matt Burns, the director of communications for the Republican National Convention.
He fired off a commentary that was published in Saturday's Pioneer Press saying he was surprised that the paper would run "this type of editorial commentary on its pages without labeling it as such. Moreover, it was troubling to see this editorial printed, not on the Opinion page where it belongs, but on 1A."
He didn't like the Internet research that the paper used in drawing its conclusions, either.
Still, he said: "Lastly, and most importantly, I would be remiss if I didn't express how much we are enjoying the Cities and the warm reception we've received. We have tremendous respect and appreciation for the fine people here, and we are 100 percent confident we have chosen the right place to hold our convention. Unfortunately, I don't have any Internet 'research' to support this part of my letter. It's commentary. And that's why this letter ended up in the Opinion section, not on 1A."
