Coleman campaign zings back at critics with tongue-in-cheek Franken 'ad'

By Doug Grow | Published Mon, Jun 23 2008 3:26 pm

Ah, the seriousness of U.S. Senate campaigns.

Last week, left-tilting blogs were having a field day speculating that a new Norm Coleman ad, featuring his spouse, Laurie, was a little deceptive in trying to show the closeness of the couple. Speculation was that Mrs. Coleman had been "greenscanned" into the ad that shows the couple in the very tidy Coleman kitchen.  In other words, Mr. and Mrs. were filmed separately.

Coleman communications director Erin Rath responded thusly:  "These left-wing, liberal, Al Franken bloggers are as goofy a bunch as I've ever seen. . . .The Senator and his wife were both in the kitchen of their home where the commercial was filmed.''

Bloggers responded to Rath's response by noting that he didn't say the couple was in the kitchen at the SAME time.

Now, the Coleman campaign has produced a very sophomoric "ad" featuring a fake Al Franken and then going to "experts'' to see if there was evidence that the "ad'' was fake. This was, ummm, a strange bit that you can find for yourself on the Coleman for Senate website and watch below.

Also, the Washington Post today comments on what it calls "The Minnesota Green Screen Debate" and posted a link to outtakes released by the Coleman campaign of the kitchen ad shoot.
