Franken, Sen. Dorgan to tout ways to ease credit for small businesses

By Joe Kimball | Published Tue, Oct 14 2008 9:54 am

Senate candidate Al Franken will appear on St. Paul's East Side this afternoon with Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-North Dakota, to talk about a new proposal to help ease credit for small businesses. They'll be at the Payne Avenue Body Shop, 860 Payne Ave., at 1:45 p.m.

Last week, Sen. Norm Coleman called a press conference on the economy but instead announced his plan to end negative advertising. Franken, however, is expected to stay on topic by having the body shop owner, Mallard Teal, tell how a small business loan helped him expand his shop.

Also scheduled to speak is caterer Jackie Williams, who will say she hasn't been able to reopen a restaurant for lack of a loan.

Dorgan opposed the bailout legislation, and Franken said he would have voted against it, too.
