    Another new poll gives Franken U.S. Senate lead

    Hot on the heels of an MPR/Humphrey Institute poll that gives Al Franken a 4-point lead in the U.S. Senate race, a second survey gives Franken a five-point advantage.

    Public Policy Polling has Franken up 45 percent to 40 percent over Norm Coleman, with Dean Barkley at 14 percent.

    PP's is a relatively large survey (1,050 likely voters) who were surveyed quite recently — Tuesday through Thursday. The margin of sampling error is a relatively low plus/minus 3 percent.

    Among the poll's curiosities: Franken leads among women and men; other surveys show him winning females but losing guys. Also Franken is nearly tied with Coleman among independents (34 percent versus 35 percent), a narrower gap than other polls indicate.

    PP has Franken winning nearly as many Dems (81 percent) as Coleman does Republicans (85 percent). Barkley takes more Democratic than Republican votes (10 percent to 7 percent).
