    Library events Nov. 13 to commemorate historic 1963 civil rights march

    The 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington will be commemorated with a special program Nov. 13 at the Pohlad Auditorium of the Downtown Minneapolis Library.

    The program celebrates an exhibit of artifacts and materials from the historic march that will be on display Nov. 5-30.

    An estimated 250,000 people marched for civil rights in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28, 1963; that's where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I have a dream" speech and Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul and Mary performed.

    The Nov. 13 events run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and include: live jazz by Trio Tipo, "A Conversation" with Star Tribune columnist and author Syl Jones and longtime civil rights activist Matt Little, and the play "The Fire Next Time," directed by Macalester College Professor Harry Waters Jr.

    The event is free, but donations will be accepted.
