At first, it looked like it might be an "SNL" spoof, but it's true. Starbucks will give a free cup of coffee Tuesday to anyone who says they voted. (Those red I Voted stickers will offer proof, but the ad just says you have to tell them you voted.)

The offer was made in a 60-second commercial that aired on "Saturday Night Live," but it's repeated on the company's web site.

The fine print: it's a Tall cup of coffee, which in the inexplicable Starbucks sizing paradigm is its second-smallest offering at 12 ounces.

Caribou reports it has no plans for free voter coffee, and no word from Dunn Bros. about keeping up with the Starbuckses. (I just hope someone doesn't insist the media investigate to see if that's un-American.)

Also, Krispy Kreme will give free doughnuts to voters, but that doesn't help us, because they closed all their Minnesota stores earlier this year. The closest appears to be in Clive, Iowa.

And Ben & Jerry's is offering free scoops of ice cream from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at its  many shops in Minnesota.
 
The company says: "Originally, we planned to give free scoops away just to those who voted. We found out afterwards that certain laws may not allow it. So instead we're celebrating our election with a national party."
