    'Overcommitted' Heffelfinger leaving Coleman recount team to focus on GOP convention review group

    Former U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger, who had been pegged to work with Sen. Norm Coleman on the Senate race recount, is also co-chair of St. Paul's blue-ribbon panel set up by Mayor Chris Coleman to investigate police actions during the Republican National Convention.

    Some wondered if he'd spread himself too thin.

    Heffelfinger agreed. He announced today that he is withdrawing from the Norm Coleman recount team work in favor of working for Mayor Coleman. Here's his statement:

    "I am committed to a thorough, expeditious, and non-partisan review of the interaction between law enforcement and the community during the RNC.  I have realized that taking a leadership role with Senator Coleman's recount team would interfere with my commitment to the City and the RNC inquiry.  Therefore I have informed the Coleman campaign I will not be available for the recount effort."
