    Coleman could make history

    Smart Politics -- the blog from the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs -- notes that if Sen. Norm Coleman wins reelection after this laborious recount, it would be the first time in state history that a Republican candidate won a full-term U.S. Senate seat when the state went double-digits in favor of a Democrat in the presidential race.

    And, the blog says: "No Republican has been elected Senator in light of such a lopsided state legislative landslide [the DFL has a 40-seat advantage in the House, 87 to 47 seats] since [the DFL's merger] in 1944."
