    Fund drive raises $40,000 to help stock 17 northern food shelves

    A fund drive for 17 struggling northern Minnesota food shelves has raised $40,000, and a check for the amount will be presented today in Virginia, Minn.

    The Hunger Solutions Minnesota effort last week was funded by local corporations and individuals.
     
    State Sen. Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook, said: “With the recession, job losses, falling wages and rapidly rising food costs, it means that more and more families are stretched to the limit. We are doing our part to step out and help, and I hope all Minnesotans are taking some time to help others this holiday season.””
     
    Host sponsors for the drive were: Flint Hills Resources, Cleveland Cliffs, Thomson Reuters and MN Power. Other sponsors were: AT&T, Lockridge Grindal Nauen, and Best and Flanagan.

    The food shelves receiving funding are: Aurora-Hoyt Lakes-Biwabik-Area,Chisholm Area, Cook Community, Deer River Area, Ely, Grand Marais, Grand Rapids, Hermantown, Hibbing Area,
    Meadowlands Area, Northern Itasca Emergency, Proctor, Quad City-Gilbert, Silver Bay Area, Tower Area, Two Harbors Area and Warba.
