Cullen Sheehan, Norm Coleman's campaign manager, just characterized as “all speculation” the Franken campaign’s assertion that its candidate will be ahead by 35 to 50 votes after all withdrawn ballots are accounted for Tuesday by the State Canvassing Board.
“We will maintain our lead, and Senator Coleman will still be ahead in this recount when its final completion is certified," Sheehan said at a just-concluded briefing.
Sheehan and Coleman lawyer Fritz Knaak reiterated their belief that as many as 150 extra votes -- "duplicates" that shouldn’t be counted -- could be included in the tally the State Canvassing Board will see Tuesday.
Franken lawyer Marc Elias has said there are no duplicates.
The Minnesota Supreme Court meets Tuesday to hear arguments on the duplicate ballot issue.
Meanwhile, Knaak said he's in discussions with all key parties to figure out how to design a process to count about 1,600 rejected absentee ballots. The Supreme Court had ordered the two campaigns to mutually agree on which rejected ballots should be included.
