WASHINGTON, D. C. -- Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) will be rooting for the Arizona Cardinals at the White House this Sunday where she and her family will join a select and politically diverse group of lawmakers invited to President Obama’s Super Bowl bash.

“I figure they’ll have a big screen TV,” the senator joked on Friday afternoon.

The true blue Minnesota Vikings fan will be throwing her favor behind the Cardinals to be a little contrary (the president is going for the Steelers) and because the team’s wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald, is a native Minnesotan.

And there will no doubt be some politics mixed in with the chip dip this weekend.  Politico reported that the party is one of a range of strategies that Obama and his top aides are using to ensure that Congress passes the mammoth economic stimulus package that is set to be debated in the Senate next week.

Others expected to attend include Sens. Bob Casey (D-PA), Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Arlen Specter (R-PA), and Reps. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Raul Grijalva (D-AZ).

Of course, as any good party guest knows, you never show up without a gift for the host.

For the former senator from Illinois, Klobuchar will be bringing the words of her father, Jim Klobuchar, the veteran journalist and former Star Tribune reporter and columnist.

On Sunday, the Minnesota senator will give the Chicagoan a signed copy of her father’s 1977 book, “Will the Vikings Ever Win the Super Bowl?”

And, though the answer to that question is still no, Jim wanted to make one point clear.

"For President Obama," he wrote inside Obama's copy. "After watching the Bears play last fall, I don't know why I should be apologizing for the Vikings?"
