Some top docs and administrators from the Mayo Clinic met with members of Congress and Obama administration officials in Washington earlier this month, reports the Rochester Post Bulletin.
Former Rochester Chief Administrative Officer Jeff Korsmo, the new executive director of the Mayo Health Policy Center, traveled to the nation's capital with Dr. Denis Cortese, Mayo's national CEO, and Chris Gade, managing director of the center.
They talked with officials about the need for health care reform.
"We felt it was timely for us to meet with those members of Congress who will play an important role as the debate unfolds," Gade said.
Some of those they met included: Jeanne Lambrew, incoming deputy director of the White House Office of Health Reform; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.; Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chair of the Finance Committee; and Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., chair of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health.
"They all want to hear more from us as they move forward on reform," Cortese said.
