They're not crazy about the idea, but three southwestern Minnesota school districts are discussing a four-day week as a way to battle budget cuts.

The districts are Southwest Star Concept, Round Lake-Brewster and Windom, says the Worthington Daily Globe. 

“The savings comes primarily from transportation and energy savings. We can recoup money from fuel prices, having heating and cooling savings in the two buildings,” Southwest Star Concept SSC Superintendent Becky Cselovszki told the paper.

But Windom Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt calls it a "worst case scenario" solution.

All the schools are checking with the MACCRAY school district -- the Maynard-Clara City-Raymond consolidated school district in west central Minnesota -- to see how things are going there in the first district in the state to implement a four-day school week.

No word from parents in the story, but some of them undoubtedly would worry about day care on the day off.
