    Gov. Pawlenty activates National Guard for Red River Valley flood preparations

    Gov. Tim Pawlenty declared a state of emergency today in seven western Minnesota counties because of the threat of floods.

    The counties are: Wilkin, Clay, Marshall, Polk, Norman, Kittson and Traverse.

    The governor also activated the National Guard to assist in flood preparations in the Red River Valley.Twenty-five members of the 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 136th Infantry, will help in Moorhead, with others to follow if needed.

    Rapidly warming temperatures and significant rainfall are increasing the chances of serious flooding.
