Property tax statements for Ramsey County homeowners were supposed to be mailed by now, but there was a problem with the new vendor who prints and mails the materials (the lowest bidder), so there's been a delay.
A first batch of about 20,000 were apparently mailed Friday; the rest of the 160,000 statements, officials hope, will go out by Wednesday. The mailings include the amount and breakdown of the property tax payments due in May and October of this year, plus the assessed valuation of homes that will be used for 2010 taxes.
If you can't wait for the mailed version, the information is already available online at the county website.
No surprise: Most assessed values are lower.
The county actually has until the end of March, by law, to mail the statements, but they wanted to get them out earlier because meetings with tax assessors to discuss the changes begin in St. Paul on April 1.
