As flood waters rise, reports are coming in of cooperation in the evacuation of senior citizens in assisted-living facilities in the Red River Valley.
Eric Schubert of Ecumen -- a large nonprofit -- reports that in addition to evacuating seniors from Ecumen's own assisted-living communities in the flood area, they are also helping find safe places for people in other organizations.
Ecumen today is moving residents of its assisted-living communities in Fargo-Moorhead to another Ecumen senior community in Detroit Lakes.
Also, many of the 195 residents of Eventide Senior Living in Moorhead -- not an Ecumen facility -- are being taken to other Ecumen communities in Park Rapids, Pelican Rapids, Lake Park and Alexandria. Many need intense care, he said.
In addition, Becker County is providing transportation, while area residents are providing beds to assist with the overflow, he said.
