    Steam line to heat and cool new Twins stadium, downtown buildings

    Officials will commission a steam line today that runs from the Minneapolis garbage-burning plant plant to the new Twins stadium and downtown Minneapolis district heating system.

    The 1,600-foot line will bring steam from the plant to heat and cool Target Field and downtown buildings. Steam from the garbage-burning plant (Hennepin Energy Recover Center) has been used to generate electricity, but diverting some of the steam for direct cooling and heating is more efficient, officials said.

    There will be a ceremony at 3 p.m. at the Hennepin County Environmental Services Building, 417 N. Fifth St.
