Minnesota will get $3.9 million in a federal grant to help renovate the Silver Bay Veterans Home.
Congressman Jim Oberstar said the grant will pay for 65 percent of the cost of upgrading the facility; the state has guaranteed the rest.
The Home provides skilled nursing care with a full range of medical services for 87 residents.
“It is a beautiful facility, overlooking Lake Superior,” said Oberstar. “It is important to provide this service here in Northeast Minnesota so we can minimize the distances families have to drive to visit their loved ones.”
