An update (PDF) released late Monday by Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Tom Hanson notes that even with the governor's planned unallotment of $2.7 billion, the state will still face a projected shortfall of more than $4 billion in 2012-13.
And that doesn't include possible reinstatement by the Legislature of the General Assistance Medical Care program, which the governor has axed starting in fiscal 2011.
It's widely expected (or is it just hoped?) that the Legislature will find a way to restore medical care for very poor single adults. But if they do, that would add an additional $888 million to the projected deficit.
