    DFL gov hopefuls heading to Austin pumpkin-patch event

    A slew of DFL candidates for governor -- some announced, some still testing the waters -- will travel to Austin, Minn., Saturday to speak at Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch.

    Scheduled to appear at "Politics in the Pumpkin Patch" are: state Sen. Tom Bakk, state Sen. John Marty, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, state Rep. Paul Thissen, state Rep. Tom Rukavina, former state Sen. Steve Kelley, former U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton, Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner and former state Rep. Matt Entenza.

    Organizers are Rep. Robin Brown, DFL-Albert Lea, and her husband Joseph Brown, superintendent of the Grand Meadow Independent School District.

    The Austin Daily Herald describes the format for the event, which runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.:

    Each of the 10 will get 10 to 15 minutes to speak, Robin Brown said, and will then be available for informal discussion throughout the evening. Piggy Blues Bar-B-Que will supply food, and there will be local musicians and horse-drawn wagon rides for entertainment. Robin Brown said the night will conclude with a straw poll after people have gotten to know the candidates better.

    Tickets are $10 per person.
