    Pawlenty goes up the river to push for water protection

    Fresh from his troop visit in Afghanistan and Iraq and then a quick dis of President Obama's health plan, Gov. Tim Pawlenty heads out onto the water today.

    He and Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle will announce new plans to protect the Lower St. Croix River, from Stillwater to Prescott, Wis., a stretch that has been named one of the top 10 endangered rivers in the country.

    The governors will meet in Hudson at 1:30 p.m. for an announcement and then hit the river for a tour, says MPR.

    Maybe they'll also talk about the $106 million that Wisconsin owes Minnesota as part of the income tax reciprocity plan. Pawlenty is counting on that money as part of his budget fix.
