In a letter to legislators, Management and Budget Commissioner Tom Hanson updates the unallotment process that Gov. Tim Pawlenty has started to cut $2.7 billion and balance the state budget.

He lists $11 million in cuts to state agency budgets for fiscal year 2010, which began this month. FY 2011 cuts will be outlined in mid-August, he said.

Among the very detailed cuts: $27,000 from Pesticide and Fertilizer Management in the Agriculture Department; $6,500 from Kindergarten Entrance Assessment; $67,000 from Governor's Office and another $13,000 in the governor's Necessary Expenses (although you might wonder how necessary they really are).

Other big cuts, notes MPR, include $3.3 million in Department of Human Services administration, a $1.5 million cut to Metro Transit and a $924,000 cut for managing the Department of Revenue's tax system.

The bulk of the cuts, many already announced, come from delaying checks to schools and cutting public health programs, aid to local governments and higher education.
