The Mad as Hell Doctors tour’s "care-a-van" will stop Sept. 16 in St. Paul on the way to an Oct. 1 rally for a single-payer option in front of the White House.

Six doctors will depart Portland, Ore., on Sept. 8 in a weathered Winnebago for a 21-city trip before they arrive in Washington, D.C. They are hoping others will follow them in their vehicles or on various social media including Facebook. And they’ve sent a letter to President Obama, asking him to meet with their delegation.

"As physicians who have sworn an oath to behave in accord with the highest possible ethical, medical standards, we have all reached the same conclusion: it is our professional obligation to speak out against a for-profit system of health care that is fatally compromising the health and well being of our patients, their families and our nation," according to the letter posted on the group’s website.

One of the organizers is Paul Hochfeld, an emergency room physician featured in July on MinnPost for his video "Health, Money and Fear."
