    Metro State U to inaugurate President Sue Hammersmith

    Although she's been doing the job since July, Sue K. Hammersmith will be officially inaugurated Friday as the sixth president of Metropolitan State University.

    There will be a ceremony at 2:30 p.m. in the university's auditorium at 700 E. Seventh St. in St. Paul.

    She takes over from William Lowe, who served as interim president after former President Wilson G. Bradshaw took a position with Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla.

    Hammersmith had been provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay from 2002 to 2008.

    She'd started work July 1, 2008, but officials said it is customary to wait a period of time before an official inauguration takes place.
