Gov. Pawlenty to visit Mexico to promote business

By Joe Kimball | Published Thu, Oct 29 2009 9:06 am

Gov. Tim Pawlenty will travel to Mexico next month to meet with President Felipe Calderon and work on business initiatives, his office announced today.

The trip is designed to "help Minnesota-based companies increase exports to the country, build strategic relationships and explore new business opportunities."

It comes at the request of the Mexican government, with the assistance of the Consulate of Mexico in St. Paul, the governor's office said.

He'll meet with Calderon Nov. 9; also on the itinerary is a meeting with Minnesota business owners at a roundtable discussion and a speech to the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico. He will return to Minnesota on Nov. 10.

Companies interested in attending activities with the governor in Mexico City on Nov. 9 should contact Barbara Mattson, 651-259-7490 or barbara.mattson@state.mn.us, at the Minnesota Trade Office by Nov. 4.
