Burnsville's Surface Water Treatment Plant project will earn an Award for Municipal Excellence this week from the National League of Cities.
The award, to be given at this week's NLC conference in San Antonio, Texas, comes with a $1,000 prize, which will be donated to a nonprofit organization. Burnsville officials said the plant is a collaboration between the city and the city of Savage, along with the state of Minnesota and Kraemer Mining and Materials.
Burnsville won in the 50,001-150,000 population category at the 2009 Congress of Cities & Exposition in San Antonio. Other cities getting awards will be Slidell, La.; Savannah, Ga.; Long Beach, Calif.; New York City; Estes Park, Colo.; St. Louis, Mo. and Seattle, Wash.
