    Veterans Day perks for vets

    In addition to the official state Veterans Day breakfast and program in Inver Grove Heights on Wednesday — 8 to 9:45 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Community Center, 8055 Barbara Ave., Inver Grove Heights — the state Veterans Affairs website lists several discounts for veterans related to Veterans Day (discounts good Wednesday unless otherwise noted):

    • Applebee's is inviting veterans and current military personnel to eat free at participating restaurants with proof of service. There are six meal choices.
    • Wednesday and Thursday:Cabela's is offering employee-level discounts to military personnel, veterans, law enforcement, firefighters and EMS personnel.
    • Car Wash: Grace for Vets is sponsoring free car washes at participating car washes. According to the website, there are two places in the Twin Cities and two in southern Minnesota.
    • Casinos: Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley will offer veterans and active service men and women a free lunch at the Grand Buffet. Military personnel need to show a military ID card between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to receive the free buffet.
    • Home Depot: Through Wednesday — 10 percent military discount, up to $200, in store on single-receipt purchases (some exceptions).
    • Lowe's: Through Nov. 15 — Lowe’s Cos. will offer a 10 percent discount to active-duty, National Guard and reserve members, retirees, veterans and their immediate family members; must present a military ID card or other proof of service. Maximum discount of $500. Note: The above information came from the Air Force Times website and not the Lowe's website.
    • Keegan's Pub: Through Wednesday — Members of the armed forces and veterans will get their first drink free.
