    Pawlenty speaks at $2,000-per-plate luncheon

    WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Gov. Tim Pawlenty will headline a $2,000-per-plate luncheon in Washington today, a chance for the presidential aspirant to lay out his vision for the party while rubbing shoulders with deep-pocketed Republican donors.

    The event, held at the upscale Grand Hyatt Washington, kicks off the National Republican Senatorial Committee's 2009 fall meeting. The two-day gathering serves not just as a moneymaker, but also as a chance for emerging candidates to connect with big-money donors a year in advance of the 2010 elections. Pawlenty is the only Minnesotan on the agenda.

    The luncheon, including Pawlenty's remarks, is closed to the media. Details of his speech were not made available in advance.
