It might seem like a late-game Hail Mary pass in light of Wednesday's dreary state budget forecast, but supporters of a new Vikings stadium plan to rally today at the Capitol. It's scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m., according to the SaveTheVikes.org group.

They say they'll have former Viking Bob Lurtsema, aka "Benchwarmer Bob."

That organizing group says it is a "grassroots, nonpartisan group dedicated to getting the Vikings a new home in Minnesota. The group is open to many forms of stadium solutions and financing, and does not advocate a specific agenda. SavetheVikes is for the fans & by the fans. This group is not affiliated with any company or political organization."

Vikings owner Zygi Wilf has said he's bypassing the Stadium Commission and taking his campaign for the new tax-funded stadium directly to legislators and the people of Minnesota. Vikings officials believe the team's 10-1 start and the dominance of new quarterback Brett Favre will energize their efforts.

Opponents, though, point to the billion-dollar-plus projected deficit and the cuts to hospitals, cities and vulnerable Minnesotans as reasons to not subsidize the team.
