Bostrom kicks off campaign for Ramsey County sheriff

By Joe Kimball | Published Tue, Dec 8 2009 9:39 am

Assistant St. Paul Police Chief Matt Bostrom officially kicks off his campaign for Ramsey County sheriff today.

He'll likely take on incumbent Sheriff Bob Fletcher, now in his fourth term. But Fletcher hasn't announced whether he'll seek re-election and wasn't available today for comment.

Bostrom has an 11:30 a.m. event at Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul and then a 4:30 p.m. event at the Shoreview Community Center.

Listed as his campaign committee co-chairs are: Democratic U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum and DFLers Ramsey County Commissioner Victoria Reinhardt and state Sen. Mee Moua, along with Republican County Commissioner Tony Bennett, as well as St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington. He also lists all seven St. Paul City Council members as supporters.

Some have speculated that Fletcher might not seek a fifth term, after many recent controversies including his role during the Republican National Convention, the conviction of two department members for theft and his connection to the disbanded Metro Gang Task Force.
