By Joe Kimball | Published Thu, Jan 21 2010 12:47 pm

Many of the many candidates for governor are scheduled to appear Monday night at Macalester College for a forum on transportation, land use and the environment.

The free session runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Alexander G. Hill Ballroom in Kagin Commons, Macalester College, 1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul.

Those arriving before 6:15 p.m. can vote on the questions to be posed to candidates.

Confirmed candidates are Republican Leslie Davis and these DFLers: former Sen. Mark Dayton, Susan Gaertner, Sen. Steve Kelley, Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher, Sen. John Marty, Tom Rukavina and Mayor R.T. Rybak.

They'll answer questions in four categories: conservation, access to jobs and destinations, economic development, and public health and safety. Attendees at the event can live-tweet using the hashtag #mngovtrans.

The event was planned by 1,000 Friends of Minnesota, Alliance for Metropolitan Stability, Transit for Livable Communities, Fresh Energy, ISAIAH, Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, Minnesota Public Interest Research Group (MPIRG), Minnesota Public Transit Association, Sierra Club North Star Chapter and Transit for Livable Communities.

Other sponsors are Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota, Complete Streets Coalition, Greater Minnesota Environmental Trust, Growth & Justice, HIRE Minnesota, Minnesota Environmental Partnership, St. Paul Smart Trips, Suburban Transit Association, Transportation 4 America, and Urban Land Institute.
