DFL legislators are expected to take a second shot this week at passing a bonding bill.

They tried once before, and actually passed a bonding bill to build new facilities around the state -- figuring it's a great way to get people back to work and take advantage of lower costs. But DFL leaders pulled it back when the governor threatened a veto.

A newer version, with some — but not all — of the money the governor wants for an expanded sex offender center in Moose Lake, is now ready for a vote, but at nearly $1 billion, it's still lots more than the governor's stated maximum of $725 million.

The lengthy, but apparently successful, negotiations over GAMC show that compromise is possible at the Capitol, so we'll see if the string of one-in-a-row bipartisan agreements can be extended.
