Tom Dooher may be a controversial figure outside Education Minnesota, but he seems to be mighty popular within the teachers union.
On Friday night, Dooher was re-elected unanimously to a second three-year term as president by voice vote of delegates to the union’s representative convention in Bloomington. He was unopposed.
“I believe that in the coming years, we will persuade new elected leaders to renew a commitment to excellence in education,’’ the 47-year-old Dooher told the delegates. “And I believe we educators will lead the way in developing innovative ideas that will help children learn.’’
The outspoken Dooher has stepped on the toes of both Republicans, which is not so unusual, and DFLers, which is striking, in his first term.
