    'Birthday party' planned for Minnesota property tax refund program, which turns 35

    The Minnesota Property Tax Refund Program — which refunds money to homeowners to keep their property taxes lower — is 35-years old, and state officials will hold a birthday celebration Wednesday at the state Capitol complex.

    They've invited legislators and state leaders who were involved in the refund's passage into law.

    The party is at 10:30 a.m. in Room 10 of the State Office Building. Among those attending: former Gov. Wendell Anderson, who signed the property tax refund into law, former Tax Chair William Kelly, former Senate President Alec Olson and former House Speaker Martin Olav Sabo.

    Current state Rep. Paul Marquart, chair of the Property and Local Sales Tax Division will be there, too. They say they've invited Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
