Matt Entenza’s campaign announced this evening that while he raised about $361,000 in 2010 from outside sources, his campaign has spent nearly $3.9 million this year.
Over the past two years, Entenza, with his wife, Lois Quam, has poured more than $4 million of their family’s personal wealth into his effort to defeat fellow DFLers Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Mark Dayton in the primary on Aug. 10.
Entenza’s campaign manager David Colling said in a statement that "almost" none of the contributions of $672,000 received by the campaign in 2009 and 2010 came from lobbyists or PACs.
But, doing the math, the former DFL legislator has spent about $3.584 million of his own money this year. Last week, after the date for this current reporting period, he contributed $450,000 more to his campaign. In 2009, he previously reported a $100,000 contribution to his own effort. That tops $4.1 million of his own cash.
His campaign’s full report to the Campaign Finance Board will be available Tuesday morning with all the other candidates’ filings.
Colling added: “Matt Entenza is a proven fundraiser. In 2009 he out-raised the entire gubernatorial field and as leader of the DFL House Caucus in 2004 he raised the money needed to nearly retake the majority, as well as in 2005 raised the funds that set up the gains of 2006. With pro-Emmer groups promising to spend at least $10M, DFL voters want a candidate who has the resources to win in November. Matt Entenza is that candidate.”
