Candidates to converge in Redwood Falls on the eve of Farmfest

As candidates prepare for a mandatory Minnesota campaign stop, we too are headed west towards Farmfest.  The annual event near Redwood Falls is a rite of passage for any major candidate.  Tuesday morning congressional candidates will all appear together in a forum.

Wednesday morning it's gubernatorial hopefuls.  This one will be especially interesting, not just to test their rural credibility, but because Republican Tom Emmer is appearing on the same stage with leading Democrats Margaret Anderson Kelliher, Mark Dayton, and Matt Entenza.  Emmer has been reluctant to participate in such forums as he waits for Democrats to "figure out their candidate" after next week's Primary Election.

Farmers we've been checking in with are feeling good about this year's crops.  One former ag columnist told me he can't remember seeing corn so tall and the beans are coming along as well. Now we'll see how the candidates prove their rural credibility.

I asked one hundred farmers, and related folks, a simple question while touring the Farm Fest yesterday, "Have you seen the Obama Recovery?". Without fail, I generated the biggest belly laughs you ever saw from formerly fat farmers who have been on an austerity diet for two decades. Look for democratic Armageddon this Fall. Any Democrats want to get a picture with Nobama on his birthday? Free pictures available for suicidal politicians.
