    Family math and science fair Saturday at U of M

    A free Math & Science Family Fun Fair is scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 26, at the University of Minnesota. Plans include hands-on experiences with hovercrafts, microscopes, miniature race cars, and the Exploradome inflatable planetarium as well as chemistry experiments, a Steel Bridge Team demonstration, and performances by Physics Force (Think physicists can’t be funny? Think again.).

    There also will be interactive exhibits sponsored by the Minnesota Planetarium Society, 3M, B*E*S*T Outreach, Center for Energy and Environment, IBM and the Minnesota Microscopy Society.

    University of Minnesota sponsors and presenters include the Department of Chemistry, School of Physics and Astronomy, School of Mathematics Center for Educational Programs, Minnesota Space Grant Consortium, Steel Bridge Team and many others.

    All ages are welcome, planners say. But kids in grades four through seven, in particular, will get a chance to learn about careers in science, engineering and mathematics.

    Math & Science Family Fun Fair. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, at the University’s Coffman Memorial Union, 300 Washington Ave. S.E., Minneapolis. Free and open to the public. More information is here.
