Susan Albright, who served 15 years as editor of the editorial pages of the Star Tribune, is joining MinnPost.com as co-managing editor.
Joel Kramer, editor and CEO of MinnPost, announced the appointment, saying, "This is an exciting hire for us and our readers. Susan has an outstanding reputation as both a journalist and a leader of journalists. She will share the managing editor duties with Roger Buoen, who has done such a great job assembling our team of editors and contributing journalists and establishing MinnPost as a high-quality site for news and analysis. Roger and Susan will make a formidable team, and having them both will enable MinnPost.com to devote more energy to unique enterprise reporting."
Buoen said, "I'm delighted. Susan is among the best and brightest journalists in town. She's an outstanding editor and a terrific critical thinker. With Susan's leadership, we'll continue to develop our coverage with stories and opinion articles that focus on substance and ideas."
Albright has been writing about world and national affairs for MinnPost, and will continue to do so. Her new duties will include overseeing Community Voices, MinnPost's opinion and commentary section.
Albright, who will begin her new role Feb. 11, said, "I would be excited by the prospect of working in any journalistic enterprise with Joel, Roger and the talent they've attracted. Joining MinnPost is not only signing up for their commitment to first-rate journalism, though. It's joining a fresh, ongoing exploration of online's possibilities for communicating and interacting with readers. That makes it irresistible."
Under Albright's 15 years of leadership of the Star Tribune's editorial pages, the editorial staff won numerous state and national awards, instituted several innovations in online opinion, and launched a Sunday section, the Opinion Exchange.
Albright is a past president of the 600-member National Conference of Editorial Writers. She has appeared often on such programs as National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" and PBS' "NewsHour With Jim Lehrer" to discuss current events, and is a frequent public speaker in the Twin Cities. She has served twice as a juror for the Pulitzer Prizes. From 1985 to 1993, Albright was editorial page editor of the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson.
She lives with her husband and daughter in Minneapolis.
