A deer hunter in Northwestern Minnesota on Sunday shot what turned out to be an axis deer that had escaped from a game farm, writes Brad Dokken in the Bemidji Pioneer. "An exotic species, axis deer are native to India," he writes, adding that "the animal was a spike buck ... and was about 60 percent white with areas of brown down the middle and spots along its sides."
The Madelia School District heard from area residents during an input session on its consideration of year-round school, reports Tanner Kent in the Mankato Free Press. "Several in attendance wondered about the impact of the calendar change on athletics and extra-curricular activities," Kent reports. "Others asked about the impacts on community daycare centers and preschools."
Brett Boese reports in the Rochester Post-Bulletin that a proposed change to ordinances regulating the use of all-terrain vehicles in Red Wing sparked heated debate Monday at a City Council meeting. The article says that the plan, which would ban many of the vehicles that have been driven for years in the city, was tabled for further discussion.
The Fergus Falls City Council met Monday to talk about the potential for a library partnership with Minnesota State Community and Technical College, writes Lauren Radomski in the Fergus Falls Daily Journal. "At this point we're in a process of discovery," said M State Provost Anna Wasescha, who spoke before the council.
