Interim directors take over until Obama appoints new CDC and FDA chiefs

William Gimson III will be replacing Julie Gerberding as head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention until a permanent successor is named. Gimson is the current chief operating officer. Possible appointees to the top job include James Marks, a former senior CDC official, Helene Gayle, former CDC director for HIV/AIDS or Thomas Frieden, commissioner of the NY City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
