St. Paul lobbyist Underwood leaves for job at Target

Today's the last day at work for the city of St. Paul's Wendy Underwood, who's been the city's lobbyist since 2005. She's taking a new job at Target.

She'd first been hired to work for the city by former Mayor Randy Kelly.

She said on her Facebook site this morning:

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone in Chris Coleman's office and City Hall for the incredible experiences these last seven years. You are family to me. Wrapping up my last day with the City of Saint Paul is tough, but I'm excited for my new adventures with Target.

Mayor Chris Coleman joked later with this response:

Get back to work — I'll still have you for five hours.

For the record, Coleman's official comment about Underwood is:

"She's one of the only hold overs from the previous administration and did great work in her time in my office. She had the respect of the legislature and was a great representative for Saint Paul."

The city has another government relations staffer in the mayor's office, Sarah Erickson, but it's expected that someone will be hired soon to replace Underwood. The Legislature convenes Tuesday, and St. Paul is working hard to get funding for a Saints ballpark included in the bonding bill.
