St. Paul’s Fire Department has received three grants totaling more than $1 million for equipment and training.
One grant, for $198,000, provides mechanical CPR units for the departments 13 Advanced Life Support paramedic ambulances. The money is from charitable groups, including the United Hospital Foundation, the St. Paul Fire Foundation, and the Minnesota Resuscitation Consortium with the support of Mayor Coleman, Regions Hospital EMS, and Allina Medical Transportation.
St. Paul also gets a share of a Regional Assistance to Firefighters Grant from FEMA, to provide training, equipment and overtime for incident command training, and a fire simulation laboratory.
Another FEMA grant of $300,000 provides swift water rescue equipment, maritime training, extrication and driver safety courses, and live-fire exercises for fire crews.
The city says it raised $100,000 in local matches for some of the grant money.
Fire Chief Tim Butler noted that the grant money is important to help the department “continue to move forward in spite of the harsh economic situation in communities across the country.”
In the department of fire we have found fireman are professionally trained to save life during emergency hours or situations and for that they need to go through several equipments and training programs. Therefore here we have found that fire department spends a huge amount to provide these fire saving or life saving equipments.
