Gary Schiff makes Minneapolis mayoral bid 'official'; Don Samuels next
Minneapolis City Council Member Gary Schiff made his official mayoral candidacy announcement Tuesday, and fellow Council Member Don Samuels planning to do the same thing Wednesday evening.
“On Day One of my campaign, we released a list of 100 small-business owners who are supporting my candidacy,” said Schiff, who also noted the support of both immigrants seeking increased opportunities and homeowners frustrated with property taxes.
Council Member Betsy Hodges and former Council President Jackie Cherryhomes have not yet “officially” declared their candidacies to succeed Mayor R.T. Rybak. Hodges has established her campaign finance committee and filed with Hennepin County. Cherryhomes expects to file her papers soon.
Newcomer Cam Winton has filed with Hennepin County to establish his campaign finance committee in the race for Mayor.
Former Hennepin County Board Member Mark Andrew has not filed but has been actively seeking support.
