You missed my point, Mr. Swift. My point was not to give an answer to the question, but rather to pose the question.
Whether something is effective or not is a question that can be answered only once we have decided on a goal.
In business terms, it makes no sense to design an assembly line if you don't know what the final product is going to be.
America right now is designing a process without having the necessary discussion about what we would like the product to be,...
I'm not advocating for anyone. I've flown a lot and seen the good and the bad.
I think for most everyone, the real problem is the scanners and searches, regardless of who conducts them. Anytime an image is stored, even for a few seconds, as a digital copy, it has the potential to survive. It's easy to see why people would consider a naked outline of themselves to be a violation of privacy. It is also easy to see why the aggressive pat-downs would be found to be invasive by travellers...
Cynthia - Do you know what that $300 a day covers? Does it include medical care, food, bus pass, etc?
Max, you wrote about a comment on the fact that St. Paul taxes are going up:
Are MY taxes going to be used to pay for 3 meals a day for someone elses kids?? That is WRONG!!", one writes, because, gosh, nobody would ever want to make sure our society has a social safety net that prevents children from starving.
There are different types of people who oppose taxes, but... there are people who are struggling right now to make ends meet and if this person is one of them, I can...
It's not about reducing regulations, it's about smart regulations.
Sure, you can reduce lots of regulations, but who here would be willing to drink milk from China or buy toys with lead paint on them from China? How about Beijing's smog? Would you want to breathe that every day?
At the same time we have a legislature that voted to force businesses to put up signs saying that if your dog eats the landscaping material, it may get sick.
Sorry, meant to say unemployment levels "have been rising" not haven't... got distracted.
@Mohammed Ali Bin Shah...
Corporate profits are above pre-crash 2007 levels, but unemployement levels haven't rising. I'm not saying that corporate taxes don't have an impact on business, but to just say (as the GOP has been for some time) that lowering them will automatically create jobs is firstly false and secondly and attempt to simplify a complex problem into a sound bite that makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Thomas,
So you're more of an "eye for an eye" than a turn the other cheek sort of guy, eh?
The problem is both groups are taking eyes, but they aren't each other's; its our eyes they're taking.
David,
The speeds listed are almost always listed as "up to" speeds. Obviously you are dependent upon other sites as well when you are downloading, but...
As a business, generally upload speed is equally, if not more important than download speed, especially if you host your own website or send a lot of content (think graphic designers).
Dennis, you don't understand what net neutrality means, do you? This isn't about the government telling you what you can and can't do with the internet, it's the government keeping corporations from telling you what you can and can't do with the internet. They are trying to prevent corporations from regulating the internet, and by the way, no matter how many switches and routers a private company buys, so long as they have cable running through public right of ways or they use communications...
