The League of Women Voters should get a lot of credit for all their work this past year in out state MN especially. They sat in on legislative hearings on the issue, studied the other states passage of voter ID laws, followed challenges and court cases, and understood the ramifications, should this pass. They went to every county that would host them and held community meetings. They tirelessly answered questions, promising to help voters get ID should that be necessary. They passed the hat...
Rep Kline wrote off 1/2 his constituents- unless you stand on the far far right you don't even get a response or contact from him. He refuses to debate, he has few public meetings and only in this areas where he knows are most conservative. I lived in his area for 2 years and never saw him in public. He fought the Waltz bill to limit Congress ability to invest on inside info only until he saw it was going to pass. He still supports No Child left behind. In insists the military can not cut...
I worked on several projects of LSP in So Minn- specifically to teach Latinos how to raise chickens and hogs as a source of income. Most projects go beyond feeding oneself, but with income in mind. I wasn't aware of any 'leftist agenda' but I suppose that working with immigrants and those on the margins of society would be suspect to the ignorant. Regarding their funding. They work with very little funding, some govt funding, from colleges, donations, etc. Much like the Catholic Church in...
and am currently recovering from a broken back. A driver of a SUV didn't see that I was 1/2 way through the intersection on a 'walk' signal. He came up behind me and made a right turn into me. Every one tells me how lucky I was. I lived, but It was been almost a year and I am limited in my movements yet and still suffer from chronic pain. Up till then I walked an average of 5 mi a day. I gave up my car 5+ years ago - conscience decision. Had no problem walking all through Europe. They are...
Mr Swift, you have not been keeping yourself educated on this issue have you?
One of the authors of Voter ID admitted that he did not know how the military would vote- we are to just trust that they will be included. In addition to military, there are many thousands of volunteers and ex pats overseas. Why would a drivers license work alone for them and it won't for those of us living here? And if that is all they needed it, who is going to process it? We will have to go in and get a...
She has been associated with our government since 1996, and you think in all that time she has not been thoroughly checked? Rep Bachmann has been hanging out with Frank Gaffney (there is a Communist and a Brotherhood radical under every bush).
For a very interesting read, try Changemakers in which Sen McCain keeps asking his staff, who are these crazies? He was frightened by the thought process of the wing nuts- of course that makes him suspect.
I am standing by my comments- wing-nut was one of the cleaner words the Senator used in inquiring where 'those people came from' Read the book - he was increasingly concerned about the level of discourse and unfounded charges and comments toward candidate Obama and others. Are you implying I should have changed McCains words? He discussed his concerns about the fringe of the Republicans with his staff on many occasions.
The LWV can probably handle the Voting Suppression Amendment on their own. You can contribute to their fund on their website. It isn't that we are so dumb, it is very misleading. Ask an elderly person, actually any age, what the amendment seeks, most will tell you that we will have to show our drivers license at the polls. They are for that. Tell an elderly person who doesn't have a license just what all they will need to get an ID and they are surprised. Same day registration and Absentee...
Which states are the 31 that have it in their constitution? Or which ones don't? The issue is over employment rather than business dropping off. So Carolina is already changing their benefit package for state employees. They are drafting the changes to drop partner insurance benefits. If companies are recruiting they want to know they are getting the best but if Mn passes the amendment, how long do you think it will take the Republicans to alter benefits for state employees, how many private...
You don't like anything not supporting your view, so you shoot the messenger. ...
At the college, where you print up an ID, you already have a registered student, you have a SSN, date of birth, everything about the student. At the polls they would have to sort through birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc. I see a difference.
Your concerns about how many same day registrants are legit- that is easy to find out. We were mailed our voter registration cards the following...
