If you haven't read Erik's post, please do. He has an even better one with more detail.

He has been saying this for years and it is clear that he has been right all along. The plan that they have has so many terrible flaws that it can not be built without a lot of...
It doesn't take a miracle, it takes a commitment to do it right:

We can recast this project using the proper technology for an urban environment AND still do it on time, using Portland's experience of 3 years from design to opening as a guide. We have to have a little courage, yes, but the problem is completely...
Not said was how those negotiations with the University were going. You know, the ones that were supposed to conclude in early December if we weren't going to jeopardize funding?
Sometimes, no news is news. But the silence has been pretty loud on this one.

It's a season for poetry and song, after all.
I've often wondered if the cable networks were inherently different, but I've always been too lazy or otherwise distracted to dig something up. Thank you! This is excellent.
Congrats to Jeff on a well deserved gig, and congrats to Brauer for havin' the power!
You know, back when people getting off the boat in New York from distant teeming shores were met with reps from the political machine right away the ability to find jobs was the best source of absolutely loyal political power there was. It still is. Having that touch is like magic. Hope you use it well! :-)
Quantcast is, as usual, way off. Compete is probably right that Lileks gets 60k unique visits a month, possibly more - that's about what I get extrapolating alexa, too.
That's huge traffic for one person, and it makes him the absolute gold standard for solo bloggers still chugging away out there. He'll be missed. But his lament about the time required to have a quality blog that people enjoy shows how difficult it is to keep it going in a world defined by free content. No, he...
I'll agree that it's unreasonable for a sponsor to provide the oversight and connection that they should be when they have 17 under their wing. While I don't see the need for a draconian cap overall, a limit to how many any one group can sponsor, somewhere far south of 17, seems pretty reasonable to me.
However, that doesn't change my basic belief that charters have been a very positive force overall, providing options that even a few school districts have found very valuable.
Sigh. One more interesting debate that is impossible to have in our screwed up "culture". Oh well.
Oh, and in case anyone is wondering why it's better to be right than to be popular, just imagine what happens if the environmental movement is shown to have put all of its chips in on a very bad hand.
Popular changes rapid sometimes - right doesn't. I'm not one for popularity because I don't see much point in keeping up with fashion. I'd much rather be right.
