Mr. Bowden, do you have the source(s) for your stats? I would love to be able to share this info. Thanks!!
"But there was also public discontent."
That's a carefully crafted way of saying, "They're made as hell and won't take this any more."
"This" is secrecy vs. transparency.
"This" is political vendetta vs. governing.
"This" is inheriting as a state the trickle-down disastrous aftermath of Tim Pawlenty's "I'd rather be president because this job is too hard for me" reign, and blaming our economic toxic waste site on Mark Dayton.
"This" is allowing party...
Every day, I check to for Tim Pawlenty's persona du jour. Today's hardline cojones-persona stands in stark contrast to the timid man who dares not announce (again, already, still) his presidential ambitions in the state he trashed.
Iowa? Package deal. We'll trade you Pawlenty and Bachmann for a bushel of corn.
Started to read your piece about La Michelle and threw up on my keyboard. That little Stepford gal is really somethin', eh?
Steeped in its own sense of entitlement, this neo-pre-enlightenment GOP majority neither represents nor legislates. It routinely seizes power to which it is not entitled and rules like any other patriarchal, tops-down monarchy. This is precisely what our ancestors fled from when they bailed on Britain and King George.
New strategy! 100 more no-hitters, plus or minus, should keep the Twins in contention. Who needs an offense?
I have a great curiosity about the compound in Abbotabad. I believe I just heard on MPR (which still operates in spite of the quivering shaft of the GOP in its heart) that the compound was built in 2005.
Does it seem odd to anyone else that something of that size and secrecy could be built near Pakistan's capitol without raising an eyebrow or two, locally and internationally? That this huge (and expensive) compound did not also raise antennae?

"By being a lobbyist that lobbies for something that potentially benfits the common good."
Let us begin at the beginning.
Gambling does not in any way benefit the common good. It is an activity that potentially (and certainly in many cases) cashes in on pandering to addictive behavior. A disease. A disease with sometimes diastrous outcomes. So that's the foundation for casinos and racinos -- irrespective of whether they're operated by whites, browns, grays or greens, blues...
It is a testament to my slippery slide down and out of the middle class that not only do I could I never afford to shop at MOA's new tenants, I don't even know who the heck they are.
Now given that I refuse to shop at employee-crushing WalMart, and once again at our very own GOP funding and homophobic Target, and given that I no longer purchase in quantities large enough to justify CostCo membership, I guess it's time to turn my retail attention to Arc Value Village.

Will delivered-newspaper subscribers get a free ride online? That's how NYTimes is doing their thing.
Because I don't watch TV, I sometimes check Strib online for story updates (usually disappointed) and sports scores (that are rarely close to real time).
Blah, blah, blah.
