Thank you! I would like to read similar comparisons of birth rates and infant mortality rates.

Cindy, thank you! First thing I read this morning and a wonderful way to start the day and week, with possibilities, promise, good people doing good things -and nothing at all about which to argue. (I'm going to check this for comments later; if I see one argumentative comment all my ancestral blood will boil!) Speaking of ancestors: my grandmother introduced me to planting scarlet runner bean seeds when I was a child. They are beautiful as seeds and as climbing plants. I haven't thought of...

Cindy,
In my 15 years of work with homeless families, I found a growing number who came here from other states. I've lived here my entire life and of course know why it's a good place to work and raise a family. But I'd really like to know what attracts homeless people to Minnesota, everything Minnesota offers them that their "home" states or other states along the way do not. Also, how does the 13,000 compare to 5, 10, 15 years ago and of those 13,000 what percentage have lived here...

Posted on 03/02/11 at 01:19 pm in response to Did local TV experts violate ethics rules in Charlie Sheen stories?

Why are we supposed to care so much about Sheen's state of mind and who exactly makes his story "white-hot"? Good God, what does anybody expect from him- he's "Hollywood," a perfect diagnosis, perhaps. I saw a lot of it watching the Academy Awards.

And Charlie Sheen is proud that he has "cured" himself of alcoholism and drug addiction by deep thinking, another great message from a self-absorbed celebrity via the media to folks who are very vulnerable. But then it is all about viewer ratings and ad dollars and the dumbing down of society.

Thank you, Susan Perry, for your thought- and dialogue-provoking words.

Thank you Cindy for putting into words so much that needs to be said and read and heard and digested. Thank you Steve for your courage to give one face to hunger that is startling for many who would rather not see the faces of hunger (or poverty, unemployment, homelessness, mental illness). And to Matt Damon for being the celebrity face that will get folks to take notice.

Yes, Mark Dayton is a respectable man. However, to say that "Democrats respect government" and "Republicans do not" are not honest statements coming from folks who are writing about respect in politics. Chicago Mayors Daly: Democrats? Good politicians? Respectable? Honest? Hmmm......

If everyone had voted with a conscience and everyone with a conscience had voted, Tom Horner would be our governor.

I must be missing something here- does one have to be an academic to understand the "controversy"? Farm fertilizers DO pollute water and are affecting water quality in the Gulf of Mexico. So the problem with this film is?
