We will have a fight with our friends to raise revenue and not be too timid. It wasn't encouraging to hear Senator Bakk come out after the elections and say his first call was into the Chamber of Commerce. Thanks Tom I'm really glad Labor did the heavy lifting and the first thing you do is call the Chamber- I'm sure did a lot of work for DFL candidates.
So- we will be running a revenue campaign to raise taxes on the rich and to make the system fair for working class people.

Posted on 01/17/12 at 11:33 am in response to Senate GOP choice of Steve Sviggum comes with strange twists

I started to chuckle when it was announced that Steve Sviggum had gotten a new job. I remembered back to one of the first hearings in the house when Steve was the new head of DOLI and Rep. Rukavina said aloud- High Five- referring to his pension and the scoring of your highest 5 years when they deterimine your benefit. I guess Steve gets to add another year and continue to build that generous pension. Good luck to him at the Senate.

Bill-
We need you back after you rest up and then you can once again help us sort out the mischief under the dome. Get well!

Posted on 10/27/11 at 04:09 pm in response to 'No!' is current Capitol answer to a public subsidy for Vikings stadium

What a quandary to be in and the votes to pass a stadium bill aren't there. The best proposal so far has been the Marty-Rumbeck stadium for a buck deal along with the parking deck. I think the legislators who vote for a stadium handout (either party) could face losing their seat in 2012. With a number of constitutional amendments on the ballot- I wonder if the ruling party at the capitol will put it on with their other buffet of misguided iniitatives. This is fun to watch.

a few thoughts on the closure of the TCAP (twin city assembly plant) it was with anger and sadness when I heard the plant was slated to be closed. my brothers and sisters of the united auto workers had dedicated their lives to making quality job one. the ford corp. had other ideas and when they poured billions into the upgrade of the plant in detroit and the focus of ranger trucks in thailand- sent a signal of their intentions. they have no allegiance to the u.s.
anyways- but I...

While my politics are opposed to Brodkord/Parry- the CD 1 race will be enertaining to watch. Brodkord has some exceptional skills and Senator Parry appeals to angry voters who feel they have been ignored. I still lay my money on Rep. Walz to pull it off and return to Congress

We participated in both screenings and are excited with the endorsements made. Our decision was based partly on the council giving the waiver, but also around the energy the challengers were generating. The St. Paul City Council seems parked in neutral right now, and lacks any "out side of the box" thinking when it comes to providing services, job or economic development. We live in challenging times and we want a council which isn't afraid to seek solutions which actively involve the...

We represent workers in the meatpacking industry and we have experienced a double edge sword when it comes to the often flawed trade agreements.
While we applaud more trade with other countries it should be fair trade.
1. Workers on both ends benefit
2. No dumping of product by the multi-nationals
(most of our members were farmers until their country of origin was flooded with cheap commodities, thus forcing them off their farms)
3. Food Safety must be of the...

Yes- what are the rest of the Commissioners thinking? It has been difficult to get a response from any of the Ramsey County Commissioners. I wish their energy would focus on health & human services delivery systems....

Gaming, gambling, and grifting. We don't need an expansion of gambling in MN. Desperate workers seem to grabbing onto unlikely allies who are part of a caucus that has introduced over 100 anti-worker bills this session alone. We need to invest in infrastructure not slot machines.
